Improvements to MARC View
January 16, 2024
HathiTrust recently made design improvements to the MARC view of catalog records. By applying new design principles used in the website redesign and digital library interface, the rows of data are roomier and easier on the eyes.
To view a book’s MARC record, click on the button from the catalog record of an item.
The 974 MARC field is unique to HathiTrust and include the following data.
- 974 ‡c – Collection code, indicates which member library contributed the item. ( You can find the possible collection codes in the Institution Identifier list. See a list of Content Contributors.)
- 974 ‡d – Date of last update for that item record
- 974 ‡s – Digitization source code
- 974 ‡u – HathiTrust item identifier
- 974 ‡z – Enumeration/chronology information provided by the contributor
- 974 ‡y – If available, indicates the item date of publication as determined by the bib rights algorithm
- 974 ‡r – Rights attribute (see https://www.hathitrust.org/the-collection/preservation/rights-database/#database-layout for descriptions of all of the codes)
- 974 ‡q – Rights reason (see https://www.hathitrust.org/the-collection/preservation/rights-database/#database-layout for descriptions of all of the codes)
- 974 ‡t – If the rights for the item described in that 974 field were determined automatically based on the bibliographic record, a brief statement is included here which describes the rationale of the bib rights algorithm.
